In Kaylas words
More than an extra set of hands.
Rather than tell you what it’s like to have me alongside you during a newborn session, I’ll let Kayla tell you herself.
Having Emma as my newborn assistant has been one of the most meaningful additions to my photography business. Newborn photography requires so much more than simply taking beautiful photographs. It requires patience, attentiveness, gentleness, flexibility, and an understanding that every baby and every family is different. Having someone like Emma beside me has made such a difference, not only for me as the photographer, but for the families I serve.
Emma has an incredible way with newborns. She is gentle, patient, and constantly attentive to their needs. She understands that newborn sessions can’t always be rushed or perfectly planned. Sometimes a baby needs to be fed, soothed, rocked, repositioned, or simply given a few minutes. Emma has always been so calm and reassuring through those moments.
Knowing I have someone beside me who I completely trust with the baby allows me to focus on my clients and on creating the beautiful images they came to me for.
And then there are the siblings.
But what has impressed me just as much is the way Emma connects with toddlers and older siblings.
Anyone who photographs families knows that getting toddlers and siblings comfortable, engaged, and cooperative can sometimes be its own adventure. Emma has such a natural ability to connect with them. She knows when to be playful, when to be patient, and when to simply let them be themselves.
She makes them feel comfortable instead of making them feel like they are being forced to participate in a photo session.
That has made such a difference during my newborn sessions because the older siblings are just as important to the story as the new baby. Emma helps create an environment where they feel included and cared for rather than pushed to the side. She plays with them, talks to them, helps keep them entertained, and makes those sibling and family moments feel much more natural.
One of the things that has meant the most to me is hearing my clients say that they want to continue working with Emma.
As we prepare to move, so many of my clients have specifically mentioned how much they are going to miss her and have even asked if there is a way they can continue working with her after we leave.
That speaks volumes about the kind of person she is. She isn’t simply someone who comes into the studio and helps me during a session. She has built genuine connections with the families, the toddlers, the siblings, and the babies we have photographed together.
Photography is about creating memories, but it is also about creating an experience that families remember. Emma has become a part of that experience for so many of my clients.
WHAT IT’S LIKE HAVING EMMA BESIDE ME
For me, having someone I trust completely is invaluable. I can focus on posing, lighting, composition, and capturing those once-in-a-lifetime newborn moments because I know Emma is paying attention to everything happening around me.
Whether she is soothing a newborn, helping with a sibling, entertaining a toddler, fixing a tiny detail, or simply being another calm and reassuring presence in the room, she has always been there.
Emma brings so much patience, kindness, professionalism, and heart to every session. She has made my job easier, but more importantly, she has helped make my clients’ experiences better.
As we prepare for this next chapter and our move, one of the hardest parts will be leaving behind the people who have become such an important part of my business. Emma is absolutely one of those people. The fact that my clients are already asking how they can continue working with her says everything.
I am incredibly grateful for the time, care, and love Emma has poured into every family we’ve worked with. She has been an amazing newborn assistant, an incredible support system, and someone I have been truly blessed to have alongside me.
Thank you, Emma, for everything you have brought to my sessions and to my clients. You have made an impact far beyond what you probably realize, and I hope you know just how appreciated you are.
